About Authors Daily
We publish something every weekday, we run an award with named judges and published rubrics, and we maintain a directory that tries to answer the question authors actually ask: should I sign with them?
What we do
Three things. We report the day’s news for people who write books. We run the Authors Daily Indie Awards. And we maintain a directory of publishers and publishing services, each carrying a standing that reflects what we have been able to document.
What we do not do
We are not a book review site. We assess publishers and services, not novels. We are not a marketplace and we take no cut of any publishing deal, because the moment we did, the directory would be worth nothing.
Editorial standards
We state facts and attribute opinions. “This company charges $8,000 for a package that includes X, per its published price list” is a fact, and we link the archived page. Whether that represents value is an opinion, and the standing tier is where we put it.
We archive every source. Terms pages change. We snapshot what we cite at the time we cite it, and the archived copy is linked next to the original.
We offer a right of reply, always. We contact a company before assigning a Caution or Watchlist standing, we log the attempt and the date, and we publish any response verbatim alongside the standing.
We keep our speech separate from our readers’. Standings are ours and we are accountable for them. Reviews belong to the authors who wrote them; we moderate against published guidelines rather than rewriting them.
Commercial relationships never touch a standing. A company on Watchlist may buy a press release or advertise, and it changes nothing. There is no code path on this site that lets it.
Corrections
We correct errors visibly rather than quietly. Every correction stays attached to the piece it belongs to and is collected in the corrections log. If something here is wrong, tell us; we respond within ten business days.
